Synopsis Planning
We wanted to do our filming in the cemetery on the 27/11/12 and then film the scary cut away shots of Amelia's face on the 28/11/12. However, when we went up to the the cemetery and the camera was put into night vision, we found that Josie's face looked really scary and it made more sense for Josie to just be the one actress for it all as it was more conveinant and it would have looked better.
So instead, we did film on the 27/11/12 but there was no need to spend another day filming when we had all the shots that we needed. Therefore on the 28/11/12 we had an extra hour editing.

Sounds Research
TICK TOCK JINGLE- This could be really good if was in the back ground, as an eerie suspense. This couldn't be the main sound as we need a loud drum noise when the cut away comes on the screen.
CREAKING DOOR- This would be really good use of foley. As our actress goes to open the chapel doors the creaking door can open slowly. We need to see if we can slow down the creaking door to make it seem more realistic with the image.
DENTIST DRILL- This sound is perfect for the genre. However, for our opening, it wouldn't fit in anywhere. Therefore, we wont be using it.
DOOR LETTERBOX FLAP KNOCKING- this would be really good because when we have an image of Josie turning her heard round, this knocking sound could be the stimulant that she reacts to.
HOWLING SHRIEKING WIND- This is a really good sound for when she's walking towards the chapel. We need to find a way to successfully overlap all these sounds to make it not be too much of a busy opening scene to handle for the viewer.
UNDERGROUND- This howling sound will be perfect for the character walking through the cemetery. It adds suspense and its more atmospheric which makes it more realistic.

Props Research

Usually, the typical props used in thriller films are:
- Knives
- Weapons
- Blood
- Makeup
- Masks
Sometimes there are stranger props you wouldn’t think about or take any notice to in thriller/ scary films, such as:
- Tents (camping out... something bad is going to happen)
- Cars
- Mobile phone
In our film, we aren’t going to use many props at all as we don’t really need to and they aren’t that important to our opening sequence. All we are going to have in our scene is our character (Amelia) in a dress with fake blood on her hand and dark scary makeup on. The makeup we use and the fake blood are really our only props as the rest is just the setting.Fonts research and Script
Font
Some people said it looked like something out of a music
magazine, however on a black background, which is what it will be on, it would
look good.
Some people said this looked more sci-fi rather than horror.
With the A not being a complete A it looked more alien like than horror.
the
barbed wire made it feel like it had a danger element in the film. However
against a black ground the barbed wire effect won’t be as effective.
9 people said that they preferred this font over the rest. Had a more graphic, violent effect.
5 people said that this was their favourite out of them all.
Script
As our main character is walking through the graveyard we
have no dialogue just non diegetic, off screen sounds (music that hasn’t been
yet published) and then as our character enters the black room we hear her sing
the nursery rhyme ‘ring a ring a roses’ in a really low voice and high pitch so
it’s quite creepy. There is no dialogue throughout our opening sequence, just
our character singing.
(Josie walks through graveyard): Backing music
(Josie goes into chapel): “Ring a Ring a Roses, A pocket
full of Poses, A tissue, A tissue...)
Credits: WE ALL FALL DOWN
Then it goes to Josie being asleep and her mum or guardian calls out to her saying "Amy are you awake darling?"
Josie murmurs back

Evaluation of students work
Reflection- Greta use of dialogue, makes the opening scene more interesting. Sound built up good tension, however the sound was a bit too much, the viewer knew it was a thriller and the music emphasised it too much. There was good control over the camera and the range of camera shot was really effective. The detail to CLAMPS was good, the clock in the background never jumped to far in the time difference and the police officer badge was more real. Finally, the use of using adults in the scene was very effective and made it more realistic. Level 3-4 47/8

Homicide- There was a range of shots however there was no variation in the fonts and feels like there was not much effort being put in. Also the shots were too long and instead of building tension it made it boring. Also the interview room should have been low key lighting and it was high key lighting taking away the impact. love field
Love field
We see an establishing shot of the field first and mysterious/scary non- diegetic music then the camera leads to a sign blowing making a squeaky noise and we see a close up shot of a black crow which is spooky, all this happens in just 3 shots. We hear the wind being foregrounded which is very spooky and weird becuase it makes the atmosphere dark and dull, the crow symbolises death and the camera tracks across the field whilst we hear the crow chirp in the background. Then as the camera contiues to track, we hear a phone beeping, we see money spilled out on the floor then we hear a crying screaming woman.. we then see a dirty foor shaking and struggling then it suddenly stops, the music stops and we see a bloody hand slam down on the ground. We see an old dirty looking farmer come to realisation of what he has done, the camera goes fast and nervous as the man is running through the field to a car, meanwhile the bird is still chirping loudly and the music is getting faster and faster building up suspense and tension. We hear a very high pitch instrument and a close up of the mans eyes staring intently at the crow. Then we hear violins, and the man has got a blanket out of the car we see the womans foot, him going to cover her as if she is dead but then out of no where we see a baby and the man say 'it's a boy'. Suddenly the whole atmosphere changes from bad to good and the setting gets lighter, everythings happy, the music gets happy and there are happy violind instead of scary. This clip is strange vbecuase we all instantly think that the man is bad becuase of the wy he looks but hes actually a nice, helpful man.

The Edge Review
1. 52/60 HIGH band 4. The guns, chase, bomb and limited time scale were all appropriate for the target audience, which I believe is male. This was a thriller/action adventure and conformed to these genre's conventions.
2. There was slightly too many titles which all seemed to say Rory Cambell on them. Some of them went past too quickly and you couldn't really see what they were even saying. The editing of the titles and credits was really professional and made it look like an actual beginning of a film.
3. When the chase began the music then started to drop and the use of drumming was very effective. It accelerated the pulse of the viewer and engaged them effectively.
4.The camera work was too shaky at the begging which made it look as if was very amature The use of Close Up and Pans from right to left (which was the establishing shot) made the camera work more professional.
5. At the beggining when there was the use of dissolves which made the viewer believe it was going to be a different genre. It also made the timing of the shots move forward in time/setting. Then it went to straight cuts which confomred the conventions becuase the pace quickened and the cutes needed to be straight forward.

Se7en, Gold Finger and The Skin I Live In
Home work
The opening scene to "se7en" is tense, dramatic and intriguing. The music builds tension and along with the fond it adds tension. As the font is hard to see the viewer is more intrested in what it has to say. The bigger name actors such as Brad Pitt had a seperate screen on the credits to shower the vierer big name actors were in this film. However, the "James Bond" film showed more of the camera work people and editors names, there was more writing and the music was very dranmatic. "Austin Powers" opening scene used big bright colourful font to show to the viewer that the film will be light hearted and easy going comedy.
Se7en and Austin Powers both had minimul dialogue where as James Bond used a whole song dedicated for the film for their opening sequences. Austin Powers allowed you to see the whole setting and main character in full detail, whereas Se7en and James Bond didnt set the scene or let you see the main characters.
Still Image Analysis
Romantic teen comedy
The eye contact between Toby and Myself indicates that there will be an element of romance within the film. The lighting is high key showing that it will be ligh hearted and not anything to streneous to watch. Also the smiles on our faces again indicates that it will have an element of humour. However the space between the 2 charatcers shows that the certification wont be anything above a 12A. The back ground also shows that it is in a high school, which relates dierectly to the teen audience becuase most teenagers are still at school. Toby is acting like a teenagers by playing an instrament which helps the veiwer get insight on the 2 main characters as I am doing work you could guess that Toby is a musician and I am a hard working pupil.
This picture indicates that the characters may be more intimate as the body language is relaxed and more subtle. There is still eye contact hinting that it could be a romantic film. Again its in the corridoor with high key light which realtes again straight to the target audience and ity will be light hearted and in a school so the amjority of charaters within the film will be of theire age group also.As an improvement I would say make the image look more natural and more of a snap shot from a moving image rather than juts a still image being taken.

Uses and Gratification
Uses and Gratification Theory
Uses and Gratification theory is that the user has more input in what we use the media for rather than producers having more input. The viewer USES the media to GRATIFY themselves in a particular way.
For example:
If im sad= Renember Me
If im happy = The Ringer
If im bored= Dirt Dancing
If im tired= Ice Age
